Red Dawn 2 (remake) filming locations and updates

Posted on 30 September 2009 by David

Just so everyone knows.  Im trying to put the shooting locations and events in chronological order. You can see there are gaps.  As I update, im trying to fill in those gaps but keep the chronological order.  So as you look through the listing, just kind of scan through.  I highlight the updates and put a date by when i did the update.

If anyone lives in an area, that they know will be used for filming, or have seen signs (permits)  or sees sets being built let us know and we will get that information listed.   The Crew is trying to keep details secret and people away.  I think this is a very special event, and we all deserve to be a part of it.

Several cities will be used for the filming of the remake of “Red Dawn.” .

Pontiac, Downtown Detroit, Royal Oak, Mount Clemens and a recreation center in Highland Park will be used as locations in the film.

The production is also expected to film some scenes in either the northern part of the lower peninsula or the upper peninsula.

*All previously used locations, where shooting has already occured has been deleted.  Just to make the updated information easier to follow.

Two weeks at the end of September they will be working on transforming the area in Downtown Pontiac, MI along Saginaw Street, just North of Huron into a movie set depicting Spokane, Wa

– Update Plans are to close that stretch of roadway, and possibly adjacent blocks beginning Sept. 17 between Lafayette and University Street, which won’t reopen it until the first week of October. Actual filming is tentatively planned for Sept. 27 to Oct. 4 from 7 a.m. to 9 p.m.   Another  location will be on Saginaw Street, south of Huron and between Lawrence and Pike streets. The main location will be Main Street Pawn Shop, at 20 N. Saginaw, an alley behind it and a building next to it at 28 North Saginaw.

It is expected that the closing of Saginaw Street will only be needed during the filming dates “for safety concerns” from Sept. 28 to Oct. 1,

Pontiac to be taken over by Chinese Army in ‘Red Dawn’ remake

Posted on 25 August 2009 by David

Pontiac will be doing its best Spokane, Wash., impression next month.

That’s when crews will be in Pontiac to shoot scenes for the upcoming remake of the classic 1980s film “Red Dawn.” The city is about 20 miles north-northwest of Detroit.

Downtown Development Authority director Sandy McDonald tells The Oakland Press filmmakers will be in Pontiac for two weeks at the end of September and a few days in October.

The city will be taken over by the Chinese Army, according to the Press’ Randal Yakey.

“Caged and enraged, resident of the city will rise up and take back their town in an attempt to fight back a repressive regime,” he writes
The original “Red Dawn” portrayed a Soviet invasion of a small town in the U.S.
