Legendary Touts ‘Warcraft’, While Warner Brothers Shocks With ‘Superman VS Batman’

Tom Cruise In Edge of Tomorrow Panel

We've heard the rumors to the mash up between Batman and Superman all the way back in 2011, but to actually hear it confirmed was a completely different experience. And this experience was reserved for the San Diego Comic Con fans last Saturday. Needless to say, there was a huge explosion of approval and excitement as the partial cast was revealed by Warner Bros., sans the movie title or any other details beside a simple graphic on screen. So far we know that Zack Snyder is directing, and Henry Cavill will be playing the role of Superman. The movie is set to be released 2015 and we'll definitely have more details as they surface.
Before the Batman/Superman tidbit though we got a chance to watch feature footage from movies like 'Godzilla', 'Warcraft', 'Seventh Son', 300:Rise of An Empire', and panels for 'Gravity', 'The Lego Movie' and Tom Cruise's 'Edge of Tomorrow'.
We're very excited to see all of these movies but based on footage alone we can conclude that Godzilla will be full of epic action and Warcraft promises not to disappoint.
Another point of excitement for us was when Game of Thrones heart throb Kit Harrington took turns to comment on his role as Spook's apprentice in the movie 'Seventh Son', directed by Sergei Bodrov and starring Jeff Bridges, Julianne Moore, Ben Barnes and due to be released January 2014. The movie is set in 18th century and is about young Thomas (Ben Barnes) who gets sold to Spook (Jeff Bridges) and gets trained in the art of defeating evil spirits. Turns out they sent Kit off to act for prolonged periods of time under rainstorms. At least it wasn't the -30s of Iceland where they filmed Game of Thrones eh Kit? Needless to say, this will be a fun movie to watch if you're into myth and action combos.
Gamers and game enthusiasts alike were taken aback by the 'Warcraft' footage shown today and no you won't be able to see it anywhere online anytime soon. However, the concept and and basic idea reached the audience as they showed a desert wasteland and a warrior unsheathing his sword before a hammer wielding orc. All we know so far is that it will be directed by Duncan Jones and he's mighty excited about the prospects of living upto the myth of an 11 million player game world wide. Best of luck to you Duncan!

First Official Image from Man of Steel

Posted on 04 August 2011 by Andrew

Today we got out first official image of Henry Cavill in the iconic Superman outfit.  These pictures are from Warner Bros upcoming reboot directed by  Zack Snyder.  The new movie will be called The Man of Steel. I have to say this is a great first image so far, and maybe this will be the badass Superman that was lacking from the last movie.

First Official Photo of Bane in Dark Knight Rises

Posted on 20 May 2011 by Andrew

Well here it is – the first official image of Tom Hardy as Bane in the new Batman film.  This pic went online earlier from after a pretty weird viral marketing thing.  I really dig the image so far as it is definitely different than Bane from the terrible Batman and Robin.  It reminds me of the early pictures of the Joker where we immediately could see a different tone than the villains from the previous films.

Henry Cavill Cast as Superman

Posted on 30 January 2011 by Andrew

According to (and many other sites), Henry Cavill has been cast in Zach Snyder’s upcoming Superman movie.   Warner Bros released a statement that I posted below.  Cavill is sort of an unknown who has played roles in movies such as Stardust and Tristian + Isolde.

“Warner Bros. Pictures and Legendary Pictures announced today that Henry Cavill has won the coveted role of Superman, the iconic superhero.

The film will be directed by Zack Snyder, who stated, “In the pantheon of superheroes, Superman is the most recognized and revered character of all time, and I am honored to be a part of his return to the big screen. I also join Warner Bros., Legendary and the producers in saying how excited we are about the casting of Henry. He is the perfect choice to don the cape and S shield.”

Charles Roven, Emma Thomas, Christopher Nolan and Deborah Snyder are the producers of the film. The screenplay is being written by David S. Goyer based on a story by Goyer and Nolan. Thomas Tull and Lloyd Phillips are serving as executive producers.

Cavill recently wrapped production on “The Cold Light of Day” and stars in the upcoming “Immortals,” opening this fall.

Targeted for release in December 2012, the new Superman movie will be distributed worldwide by Warner Bros. Pictures, a Warner Bros. Entertainment Company.”

A Few Comic-Con Trailers Online

Posted on 29 July 2010 by Andrew

San Diego Comic Con started a week ago, yet footage slowly keeps trickling online.  There is a ton of stuff to sift through, but these three trailers look very promising.  The first trailer is for the new AMC series “The Walking Dead”  and looks like it could be another classic show for their line up.  The show is based off of the popular graphic novel of the same name.

Walking Dead Trailer

Next is the Comic Con reel for Zack Snyder’s Sucker Punch.  This was brought online in HD by Apple a few days ago but the footage here is spectacular.  You’ll have to watch it a few times to catch everything.

Last but not least is the footage from the Thor panel that was put online yesterday.  This trailer is cut a lot slower than usual but it gives us a good sense as to what Thor looks like and how the two worlds will be shown in the movie.

There are probably a ton more videos online but these were the three that caught my eye recently.  We have already posted the new Tron Legacy and Let Me In trailers that debuted at comic con as well.

Batman 3 Has a Release Date

Posted on 30 April 2010 by Andrew

According to Slashfilm Batman 3 official has a release date now – July 20th, 2012.  Imax had recently announced a 20+ movie lineup for the next few years and the next Batman movie was on the list.  Christopher Nolan had said the the script was being worked on with David S. Goyer and Jonathan Nolan.  No word yet on any plot details, film locations, or villains, but after Nolan’s Inception comes out this summer I’m sure the information will start coming in one small tidbit at a time.  This release date gives Warner Bros plenty of time to prep and market the movie.

Jonah Hex Trailer Online

Posted on 29 April 2010 by Andrew

The Jonah Hex Official Trailer has been released.  The movie stars Josh Brolin as Jonah Hex in this adaptation of the DC comic.  The film comes out this summer on June 18.  The movie is directed by Jimmy Hayward (Horton Hears a Who) and written by Taylor and Neveldine (The Crank movies).  That should give you a vibe on how crazy different this film will be.  This could be the over the top action movie the summer needs.  And check out the double-gatling gun wielding horse.  Horrible or awesome – you be the judge…

Warner Bros Goes Book Crazy

Posted on 11 March 2010 by Andrew

Who would have thought that Sherlock Holmes would be one of Warner Bros most profitable movies of last year.  Currently it sits at $490 million worldwide, and will be later released on DVD/Blu Ray this month to great sales, I assume.  Sure it helped that Robert Downey Jr and Jude Law starred in it and Guy Ritchie gave the film a much needed update.  But now it seems that Warner Bros is dusting off their history books and seeing what other historical or literary heroes can be turned into franchises.  Their most recent idea is their craziest – turning the famed inventor and painter Leonardo da Vinci into a action hero.  The treatment titled “Leonardo da vinci and the Soldiers of Forever” is written by producer Adrian Askarieh (Hitman).  That title almost makes it sound Bond like.  According to HeatVision, the story tracks da Vinci fighting Biblical demons in an Indiana Jones type genre film.

This isn’t the first (nor the last most likely) history/literary character that Warner Bros is producing into a film.  This past month we have heard about Guy Ritchie directing an update of Excalibur, Francis Lawrence (I Am Legend) directing a movie about the adventurer Marco Polo, and a new remake of The Three Musketeers produced by the people who made Sherlock Holmes.  Some of these seem like good ideas while some, eh – I’m not so sure.  I rather enjoyed Sherlock Holmes and look forward to a sequel to that, hopefully with Moriarty.  I wouldn’t mind seeing these new takes on literary/historical characters on film, as long as they don’t all become a muddled mess where it’s basically the same story again and again where only the main character changes.

Batman 3 Progressing

Posted on 09 February 2010 by Andrew

A few days ago, /Film posted a rumor about the progress of the Batman 3 script.  Well, it turns out that there was some truth to the rumor.  In a recent interview, David S. Goyer had mentioned that he had left ABC’s current show Flash Forward because of upcoming engagements on feature films.  Now it seems that one of those engagements is Batman 3.  David S. Goyer and Jonathan Nolan, both writers on the Dark Knight, are currently underway on the script, using an idea penned by the last two installment’s director, Christopher Nolan.  Nolan is currently finishing up his upcoming summer blockbuster Inception, and hopefully will direct the next Batman film soon after.  It will be interesting to see where this next film goes, especially because I felt it was obvious that they wanted Heath Ledger’s Joker to be in the next film.

In other news, Christopher Nolan has been asked by Warner Bros to oversee their new take on Superman.  He is not writing or directing, instead he will be acting as a mentor to help give the series a new look and a different spin.  The film will stand alone, and won’t be a sequel to Superman Returns.  However Warner Bros tackles this next film, I’m sure it will be cheaper and NOT involve Lex Luther for the billionth time. Here’s hoping.
