John Cusack as Edgar Allen Poe in The Raven

Posted on 28 August 2010 by Joey DC

Now what better and more reliable source could be there as an official announcement straight from the leading man himself. John Cusack revealed over his official Twitter that he “officiali – will play edgar allen poe in fall-a-film called the raven, send any poe- gold – my way as i begin this journey into the abyss.” I have always been a big fan of Cusack’s work, so I think that’s pretty exciting news.

“The Raven” is a thriller which won’t be a straight adaption of Poe’s poem, as much as a serial killer thriller in which the famed horror author would have to solve clues of a string of murders based on his stories. The story will be set in Baltimore during the 1850s (Source).

Jeremy Renner and Ewan McGregor in talks for The Raven, Battleship.

James McTeigue’s(V for Vendetta) next directorial effort is starting to shape up.  Jeremy Renner (Hurt Locker) and Ewan McGregor (Big Fish) are in talks to star in his upcoming film The Raven. The Raven is one of Edgar Allan Poe’s most famous stories, and the film will chronicle the final mysterious days of his life.  It also involves Poe investigating a serial killer whose murders are inspired by his stories.  The director has described it as “like the poem, but crossed with Seven.”  Hmm, this film is starting to come together nicely and if it is anywhere near as dark/interesting as Seven it could be a good film.  James McTeigue is really more of an action or comic book director so it will be some new territory for him to direct a thriller.

In other unrelated news Jeremy Renner has also been in negotiations to star in Peter Berg’s Battleship.  Yes, the one based off the Hasbro board game. And if the movie didn’t sound any crazier, the battleships will be up against…….aliens! Not making that info up either, and I am definitely interested to see a trailer for this.  Jeremy Renner has gotten quite a few projects lined up ever since his recent Oscar nomination for best actor in The Hurt Locker. He does an excellent job in that movie and I’m glad the Academy and other directors are recognizing his talent.
