Akiva Goldsman, who has written countless screenplays including Angels & Demons (2009), "I Am Legend" (2007), "The Da Vinci Code" (2006), "Batman & Robin" (1997), and episodes of FOX's "Fringe" will be making his directorial debut with "Winter's Tale."
It has been reported by Vulture that Will Smith and Russell Crowe will be playing supporting roles. Crowe is supposedly set to star as Pearly Soames, a gangster, while Smith has landed the part of a judge. According to Dateline, Warner Bros. is giving the project a $75 million budget and is about to cast the key roles. Production is set to begin in spring 2012.
The film is based on Mark Helprin's 1983 novel set in a mythic New York City. Peter Lake, a burglar, encounters Beverly Penn, a young heiress, while robbing her home. Athansor, a magical white horse, acts as Peter’s guardian angel.
