Rise Of The Apes – Harry Potter’s Tom Felton Joins

Posted on 19 July 2010 by Joey DC

Harry Potter star Tom Felton (aka Draco Malfoy) has joined the cast of the 20th Century Fox’s Caesar: Rise Of The Apes.

He will play the son of Brian Cox’s villain character, who runs a primate sanctuary with no compassion for the animals living there.

James Franco, John Lithgow and Freida Pinto star in the Rupert Wyatt-directed sci-fi action adventure. Andy Serkis will do motion capture for the Caesar character.

Effects house Weta Digital – employing certain of the groundbreaking technologies developed for Avatar – will render, for the first time ever in the film series, photo-realistic apes rather than costumed actors.

Set in present day San Francisco, Caesar: Rise of the Apes is a reality-based cautionary tale, a science fiction/science fact blend, where man’s own experiments with genetic engineering lead to the development of intelligence in apes and the onset of a war for supremacy.

The movie is set to hit theaters on June 24, 2011.

James Franco Added to Planet of the Apes Prequel

Posted on 20 May 2010 by Andrew

James Franco has grabbed the lead role for the upcoming Planet of the Apes Prequel.  Variety is reporting that Franco beat out a number of people and will play a scientist crucial to the war between apes and humans.  The prequel, titled Rise of the Apes, is directed by Rypert Wyatt from a script by Amanda Silver and Rick Jaffa.  The movie is set to come out next summer on June 24th.  This will be the seventh (mark that – SEVENTH!) Planet of the Apes film.  Also, for the first time ever the apes will be created digitally instead of having costumed characters.  I’m sure in the upcoming weeks we will be hearing more casting news for this film.
