Q &A

Before the Trailer (BTT): “Dead Man Down” is your first film credit. What was this experience like?

Beata Dalton (BD): It was amazing. It was such a wonderful experience working with Colin Farrell. I have to say, I was pretty happy.
BTT: Tell us about your character and how you made it your own.

BD: The character I am playing is Anka, Colin’s Hungarian wife. Colin plays Victor who is Hungarian and they came over to America with their daughter to make a new life for themselves. They had a wonderful family life and then she and the daughter get killed. What was really nice about the character is Anka is the wife, the mother, the love of his life, the light in his life. We all want a family, we all want to be connected to someone, and that’s who she is. She is a person that he loved and lost. It’s his grief that propels his revenge on the people that killed her and her daughter. Colin does such a great job. There are a lot of differences compared to his previous work. There are a lot of moments where he is not saying much but it is all in his face, his eyes, the anger, the loss, the loneliness, and all those things.
BTT: What was it like working with Colin Farrell, Terrence Howard, Noomi Rapace and Dominic Cooper?

BD: Colin is amazing to work with. He is a very generous actor, very charming, very professional. The scene we had was a family scene with our daughter. It was a lot of improv and we just worked off each other. That’s what I really enjoyed. He is very charming as a person.

BTT: The film was shot in Philadelphia. What was it like on set?

BD: It was great. The crew, all the cast, the director, everything was so easy. It was clear. I spent a lot of time working with Colin and I didn’t get a chance to see much of Philly but it was very nice out.
BTT: Can you share a memorable behind the scenes moment?

BD: When I worked with Colin on lines, he was getting his hair done because he had to get it died, we were sitting there in his hotel room.
BTT: What did you learn while working in this project?

BD: Honestly, that when you work with a professional crew and cast, it is supposed to be easy and fun and that is going to be your best work. A lot of times what happens when you are in acting school is they make it sound like such a big deal when really, when you are on set, a lot of your work is going to be in the moment and it’s going to be a thing that happens as you are doing the scene. That’s what makes scenes real and you have to go with it. That’s what I learned and because the director was so good and clear and Colin is so amazing, it just made it easy, fun, and real.

BTT: What is your advice to those wanting to enter into the business?

BD: If you really want to do it, you have a drive within you to do it because there is a lot of rejection. There are so many wonderful roles out there and don’t give up. If you really want it, don’t give up. It can happen. It happened to me.

BTT: What other projects do you currently have in works?

BD: I am doing a lot of auditioning for pilot season which is great. I am also doing an independent which is coming out in September which I am really excited about. We start shooting in April. I am looking to work overseas so I am excited about that. I am also looking to get back into theater because I think that it is a lot of fun, grounded, and a very different type of work.
