The “National Lampoon's Vacation” film series, which follows the Griswold family disastrous vacations, is back. John Francis Daley and Jonathan Goldstein wrote and are set to direct the sequel for New Line cinema.

According to Variety, “the new version of the vacation adventures of the quirky dad and his family will follow Rusty, who now has his own family misadventures on the road.” Ed Helm (The Office and The Hangover) has been cast as Rusty taking over the role previously played by the likes of Travis Greer, Ethan Embry, and Johnny Galecki.

In an interview with Collider, Daley and Goldstein mentioned that shooting will take place in Atlanta and New Mexico this June. Casting is currently taking place. They mentioned plans to bring back other original cast members. “We’re in the process of having those conversations,” said Goldstein.

The series, based on John Hughes' short story "Vacation '58,” consists of four theatrical films and one television film including “National Lampoon's Vacation” (1983), “National Lampoon's European Vacation” (1985), “National Lampoon's Christmas Vacation” (1989), “Vegas Vacation” (1997), and “National Lampoon's Christmas Vacation 2” (2003).

It is currently unknown if Chevy Chase and Beverly D'Angelo who portrayed Clark W. Griswold, Jr. and Ellen Griswold throughout the series, except in the television movie, will reprise their roles. They did for “Hotel Hell Vacation,” a short film that aired during Super Bowl XLIV, and set of Old Navy commercials.
