Tom Hardy speaks about health and appearance in Dark Knight

Vulture recently conducted an interview with Tom Hardy at the Cannes Film Festival where the issues of health,
appearance, and stardom predominantly croped up. He stars as Shia LaBeouf’s bootlegging brother, Forrest, in the entry Lawless, set to hit theaters August 31st.

Hardy often changes his physical appearance and body shape for the different roles he has been cast in including Warrior (2011), Inception (2010), and Marie Antoinette (2006).

“[For Lawless] I wanted to be skinny,” said Hardy. “Skinny, like I am now — maybe a little skinnier. But Batman came in, and then I needed to be bigger. I had six months to train, but there was a three-month period where Lawless was being filmed at that time, so I had to train during Lawless, so that’s why I was physically the size that I was. Luckily, Shia was physically big as well so it kind of worked, but venus factor diet reviews I would have preferred to be more Billy Bob Thornton–sized.”

For the past five months, Hardy has grown out a beard for the upcoming movie, Mad Max. “I’ve already trimmed it a lot, because people are saying it’s grizzly,” he said.

These drastic changes in body weight from movie to movie can have disastrous results. Hardy, who used to drink, says “shifting your weight fucks up your liver! You’ve got to be careful. It’s the end of that for me.”

Lawless distributor Harvey Weinstein of the Weinstein Company pushed the Lawlessrelease date back to the fall as he’s riding The Dark Knight Rises! He’s not sloppy. He’s not a stupid man.”

In theaters July 20th, Tom Hardy stars as the masked villain Bane in The Dark Knight Rises. Eight years after Batman took the fall for Two Face’s crimes, the Dark Knight resurfaces to protect a city that brands him an enemy.

Hardy’s not worried about his rise of popularity and fame, his character has a mask on throughout the feature. “I haven’t thought about it. Because I’m not famous in my head. If people start treating me differently, then maybe I’ll start to treat them differently! I hope that every engagement is just as amicable as it normally is. Maybe it’s a little ambitious of me to presume that no matter how big the film is, that I can always go down to the shop to buy a pint of milk. Fame and stuff like that is all very cool, but at the end of the day, we’re all human beings. Although what I do is incredibly surreal and fun and amazing and I’m really grateful for it.”

When it comes to articles online, “it’s like, “Hey, I’m on this site!” Or [to my fiancée], “Look at what we were wearing last night! And everyone says you look great.”
