The biopic “42” about baseball star Jackie Robinson will be filmed in Georgia, Alabama, and Tennessee this summer. The Macon Film Commission expects when and if the movie films in Macon, Georgia, it may begin late May or early June.
Harrison Ford leads as Dodgers president Branch Rickey, who signed Robinson to the team, in the movie is written and directed by Brian Helgeland (“L.A. Confidential”). According to IMDB, Robinson will be played by Chadwick Boseman. Christopher Melon (“Law & Order: SVU”) will play Dodgers manager Leo Durocher, and Jon Bernthal (“The Walking Dead”) will play Dodgers pitcher Ralph Branca.
In 1947, Robinson, born in Cairo, Georgia, broke baseball’s color barrier by playing first base for the Brooklyn
Dodgers. He soon became baseball’s first Rookie of the Year. “42” refers to Robinson’s uniform number.
In March, “Trouble with the Curve” starring Eastwood, Amy Adams, John Goodman, and Justin Timberlake filmed at Luther Williams Field for one day. Filming of “42” could, according to Dale “Doc” Dougherty, Macon’s parks and recreation director, last as long as three months.
